So I arrived in Munich. Because I didn’t realize that I had to call the bmw housing people 2 weeks in advance before my arrival, my housing situation was somewhat messed up.
After hanging around near isatore station (at a nice coffee shop I might add), I managed to secure a place. It looks like I’ll be staying in a double in the BMW hostel with a guy named Julian. He’s a local guy also working for BMW. It looks like he’s doing an apprenticeship of some kind. Nice guy.
Today I went to Porcisstrasse (sp?) to do my anmheltung and applying for a residence permit. By law you have to register your presence and germany if you’re coming to work here, so that they know where you live and that kind of stuff. It turns out I won’t need a residence permit, except for the last two days of my internship (which isn’t covered by my regular visa due to some sort of 90 day restriction *shrug*).
After that I went to central station (I’ve forgotten the german word for it…Hauptsomething) to check out banks and where I could by a case and monitor for my PC. Deutscher Bank won’t sign me up for an account because apparently I’m not staying long enough. Apparently CitiBank might though, so I guess that’ll be my next stop. As for computer parts, central station is awesome. It’s right in the middle of the Turkish district, and there is one area that has a cluster of little PC shops. Naturally they competition is fierce, so prices are good. I’ll be going there tomorrow (Saturday) to buy what I need… which I’m looking forward to.
Tried to take some pictures…didn’t succeed because the memory card was full. I’m thinking of opening a flickr account to dump them all.
Spent the rest of the day bumming around… I should have been doing the LaTeX work I have to do, and/or reading papers. But, I’ve been in a really shit mood lately and it turned out all I needed was some sleep. So hey, it all worked out.
